Wellbeing at Yubup PS
An insight into Wellbeing at Yubup Primary School!
At Yubup Primary School, we are proud to have a dedicated Wellbeing and Disability Inclusion team who bring a wide range of knowledge, experience and expertise to support our school community. We endeavour to provide meaningful support to all key stakeholders within our school — students, families and staff — through a collaborative, inclusive and relationship-focused approach.
We strive to create calm, safe and inclusive learning environments where all students feel welcomed, valued and supported to thrive, achieve success and work towards their full potential and beyond. At the heart of our work is a strong commitment to restorative practices, building positive relationships and making meaningful connections with every person who walks through our gates.
At Yubup Primary School, we endeavour to support students to learn effectively and develop positive attitudes and behaviours through a whole-school approach to Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). Through explicit teaching and practical learning experiences, we aim to equip students with the social, emotional and behavioural skills needed for future success.
Our Social and Emotional Learning framework currently includes:
These programs are delivered consistently across the school and support students to build resilience, self-awareness, positive relationships and a strong sense of belonging.
The Wellbeing Team at Yubup PS has also developed a visual representation of our SWPBS Matrix (School Wide Positive Behaviour Support), which reflects who we are as a school community and the values and behaviours we strive to demonstrate every day. Through shared expectations, positive reinforcement and restorative conversations, we work together to create a school culture where every student feels supported, connected and empowered to succeed.
As a school, we are also beginning our Berry Street journey and exploring how trauma-informed practices can further benefit, nourish and uplift all students across our community. Through this work, we aim to strengthen our understanding of student wellbeing, regulation, engagement and connection, while continuing to create supportive learning environments where every child feels safe, understood and ready to learn.

Meet Pickles our Parakeet school mascot!
Did you know that “Yubup” means Parakeet? Pickles is our much-loved school mascot and can often be spotted at special events and celebrations around the school community.
Pickles represents everything we strive to be here at Yubup Primary School — inclusive, collaborative, courageous, curious and excellent individuals. Just like Pickles, our students are encouraged to embrace and live our school values each and every day through their learning, relationships and actions.
At YPS, we believe our values help create a connected, positive and supportive school culture where every student feels a sense of belonging and is empowered to thrive.

Success Slips!
What are they and has your child received one before?
At YPS, we are proactive in identifying, acknowledging and celebrating the positive behaviours demonstrated by all students. Success Slips help us do just that!
Aligned with our school values, Success Slips provide students with immediate positive feedback and help them understand what they are doing well and why. They are a simple but powerful way to recognise effort, positive choices, respectful behaviour and success throughout the school day.
Whether it’s showing kindness, persistence, responsibility, teamwork or demonstrating our school values, Success Slips help reinforce the behaviours we want to see more of across our school community.
At YPS, we believe that recognising positive behaviour helps students feel valued, connected and motivated to continue making great choices every day.

Parakeet Pennys
At Yubup Primary School, students can earn Parakeet Pennys when they demonstrate our school values through positive behaviours, effort, kindness and respectful choices.
Parakeet Pennys are a positive way to acknowledge students for making good choices both in and out of the classroom. Students may receive them for showing our school values in their learning, interactions and behaviour across the school day.
Each Parakeet Penny also contributes towards their House points, helping to build teamwork, school spirit and a strong sense of belonging across our school community. House point totals are shared with students each week at assembly, creating excitement and encouraging positive participation across the school.

Class Dojo
At Yubup Primary School, Class Dojo is used to recognise students for positive learning behaviours, effort and engagement with their learning. Parakeet Pennies are awarded throughout the day when students demonstrate our school values in action.
These Parakeet Pennies are collected individually and help students work towards a menu of experiences, where they can choose from a range of class-based rewards and opportunities. This supports student motivation and gives them a sense of ownership over their achievements.
